Sure is Funky returns to the Victoria Stakes on Friday 11 September. And we’d love you to join us.

Floor-filling vinyl-only funk, soul, disco and northern, with a few re-edits in the mix.
Expect James Brown, Diana Ross, Change, and some of Chic’s Stomping at the Savoy too, as Paul and Chris dig through their crates.
Please note the new timings. We’re on from 7.30pm to midnight, so an earlier start and an earlier finish. That’s the Stakes’ new licence, not a comment on our collective age. Honest.

So What is
Sure Is Funky?
For the last 12 year’s we’ve put on parties in North London playing a vinyl-only mix of funk, northern, disco, hip hop and rare groove.
We played our first parties in Hornsey Town Hall before it was refurbished (and we’d love to play there again too when it re-opens).
After selling out the Supper Room there, we put on a couple of two-floor parties, at the Town Hall and then when we took over the entire Victoria Stakes.
We’ve since put on three or four parties a year. Regular enough to build a great community on the dance floor. But far enough away from each other so that each one still feels special.
We love the music we play. But what really makes our parties work is the people who come. An amazing crowd who all have one thing in common – a desire to dance and have a good time.
And for that, we thank you.
Paul Wilkinson
Paul has been playing Northern Soul, proper left field Disco and Funk since he was in short trousers.
He also likes gravy on his chips.
Chris Reed
Chris started playing rare groove and hip hop at clubs and house parties in the early 90s.
He still has the same records, but not the same hair.
Not as much anyway.
